CometCMS is a headless Content Management System I created to combine maximum simplicity with modern API-first architecture.

The entire CMS is a single PHP folder you upload to any cheap shared host – no Node.js, no Composer, no database, no CLI, and no SSH required. PHP 8.2+ is the only production dependency.

Core features:

  • File-based storage: Content is stored as JSON files in storage/ – no database needed
  • API-first: REST API at /api/v1 with fine-grained API token permissions
  • Built-in localization: Content types support multiple locales; translations are resolved via ?locale=
  • Backup system: Full backups of all content, media, and settings directly from the admin UI
  • Webhook support: Signed outbound webhooks for SSG builds
  • Custom permission system: Roles (Admin, Editor, Viewer) and API tokens with scoped permissions

Built with Vue.js (admin frontend) and PHP (backend), styled with Tailwind CSS.
